In short
Your passport is your stamps: which park and which day. Without an account it stays on your phone. When you sign in, it is also kept in your account, so you see it on any phone you sign in on. Your location never leaves your phone. The app has no ads and no tracking, and we never sell your data.
Who we are
Park Passport: Ontario is made by an independent developer. It isn’t made by or affiliated with Ontario Parks or the Government of Ontario. In this policy, “we” means the developer.
Your passport
For each stamp the app saves the park, the day, and whether you checked in there or added the visit later. Without an account this stays on your phone. When you sign in, it is also saved to your account.
Your account
Signing in is optional, with Google or, on iPhone, with Apple. We get your name and email address from them, never your password; with Apple you can hide your email. Your name is shown on the holder’s page of your passport. We don’t send you newsletters or ads.
Where your data is kept
Google runs the app’s servers for us (Firebase). Your passport is kept in Google’s data centre in Toronto, Canada. Your sign-in details, your name and email address, are kept by Google in the United States. The connection to the servers is encrypted, and only you can see or change your passport.
Your location
With your permission, the app uses your location while it is open: to check you in when you’re inside a park and to show the parks near you. Your location stays on your phone and isn’t saved; the app keeps only which park you checked in to. You can turn location off and still add visits by date.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, it sends a report to Google’s crash reporting service (Firebase Crashlytics) so we can fix the problem: the phone model, the system and app versions, and what the app was doing. It contains no name, email, stamps or location, is kept in the United States and is deleted after 90 days.
Other apps
Directions opens your maps app with the park’s location, not yours. Send feedback opens an email to us with the app and phone versions; we use your address only to reply. Google Play or the App Store handles the payment, and we never see your card.
No ads, no tracking
The app shows no ads, collects no analytics and doesn’t follow you across other apps or websites. We don’t sell your data or share it with anyone except Google, as described above, or when the law requires it.
Deleting your data
A long press on a stamp removes it, from your account too. Signing out removes your passport from this phone; it stays in your account. Delete account in Profile deletes your account and passport right away. If the app is no longer on your phone, write to us from your account’s email and we’ll delete it within 30 days. Without an account, uninstalling the app deletes everything.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it. We answer within 30 days.
Children
The app isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has signed in, write to us and we’ll delete the account.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change affects what we collect or where we keep it, the app will tell you first.
